‘Saxony: Home of German Superb Craftsmanship-Xiao Xiaowei Photography Exhibition’ is a cultural project completed by the famous contemporary Chinese photographer Xiao Xiaowei and Lange Watchmaking Company from Saxony, aiming to make the brand hometown Saxony’s rich humanistic history and craft traditions, and the spiritual beliefs of perfection and excellence bred from this soil were introduced to the Chinese people. In 2015, photographer Xiaowei Wei actively invested in shooting projects initiated by Lange, from Dresden to Leipzig, from Chemnitz to Glashütte. After more than a month, his footprint has covered Saxony. From the calm perspective of onlookers, Xiaowei Wei has taken thousands of breathtaking works on Saxony’s nature, history, humanities, business traditions and characters. In these works, the valley greenery and sandstone wonders bring Saxony’s unique geographical environment. About the artist
Xiaowei Wei is a well-known contemporary Chinese photographer, a member of the Chinese Photographers Association, a member of the Royal Photographic Society of China, and a special picture photographer invited by China Central Television’s film channel, sports channel, and the National Grand Theatre. Bian Xiaowei was born in Beijing in 1956. He was admitted to the All-China Federation of Labor Unions in the late 1970s and became a professional actor. In the late 1980s, with the boom of going abroad to Japan. In 1997, he returned to China with his wife Zuntian Junzi and began to concentrate on photography. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chinese films, Xiaowei Wei has taken black and white portraits of 1,000 famous Chinese film artists for four years since 2002, assembled into a book, and presented the centennial birthday of Chinese films. In order to welcome the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Xiaowei Wei cooperated with CCTV, Jilin Fine Arts Publishing House, Beijing Skyrim Vision Culture Communication Co., Ltd. and other units. It took two years and covered many countries in the world to shoot all 134 Chinese Olympic champions before the Beijing Olympics Black and white portraits, building another monument to show the Olympic heroes. Wu Xiaowei’s works have been collected by many institutions such as the National Museum of China, the National Art Museum of China, the Chinese Film Museum, and the Shanghai Art Museum.
About the curator
Fan Di’an, born in Fujian in September 1955, has been the curator of the National Art Museum of China, and is currently the dean of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the vice chairman of the Chinese Artists Association, the vice chairman of the Chinese Literary Critics Association, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and a librarian of the Central Cultural and Historical Research Museum . Engaged in 20th century Chinese art research, contemporary art criticism and exhibition planning, art museum studies. During his tenure as the director of the National Art Museum of China, he put forward the concept of “public-centered”, and enhanced the professional level of the National Art Museum in terms of strengthening academic research and exhibition planning, expanding public cultural services, and increasing national art accumulation. Outstanding art from various countries, hosted a large number of large-scale art exhibitions reflecting the theme of the times and continue to expand international art exchanges. He has also curated the exhibitions of the National Pavilion of the Venice Biennale, the Chinese-French Cultural Year, the Sino-Italian Cultural Year, the Shanghai Biennale, and the Europalia Chinese Art Festival.
